Some days I’m more successful than others...on both fronts:) Oh well, all I can do is try!
See, on any GIVEN day…
My bed is a ruffled mess, the laundry hamper has spilled over, and dirty dishes are piled in the sink.
But I am at peace.
Wet towels lay on the bathroom floor, dried toothpaste marks the countertop, and empty toilet paper rolls litter the tile surrounding the garbage can.
But my slate is clean.
A box of stale crackers left next to the sofa, an empty mug forgotten on the side table, and the fridge holds only a week-old half bottle of wine, some fuzzy strawberries, and expired milk.
But my outlook is fresh.
Crumpled up paper, piles of bills and an open check book clutter the desk.
But my heart is full.
Gardens in need of weeding, lawn overgrown, and leaves to be raked.
But my conscience is clear.
The key is “any GIVEN day.” For each day is just that…a gift! And what we do with that gift and how we share that gift are what makes us who we are. We are not entitled to today, or tomorrow, or the next day. With that in mind, we can choose to loathe the monotony or embrace the spontaneity. We can get lost in and overwhelmed by the to-do lists and societal pressures, or we can reject the traditional concepts of what life “should” be and forge our own path. We can live in the darkness and evil of this world or we can discover our own light and let it shine for all to see. We can talk about what love is, or we can KNOW love; deeply, intimately, unconditionally.
Positively. Graciously. Sincerely. Authentically. Gratefully. Humbly. Prayerfully. Lovingly. Powerfully. These are the ways I want to spend each GIVEN day. I am free. I am blessed. I am saved. Amidst all the chaos, I will rejoice in His bountiful grace and mercy.
Oh, and don’t worry…on any GIVEN day, my home is ship-shape -- just don’t open the closets or look under the beds:)
